Hi everyone!
I hope you all are doing well and had a nice, warm, and safe holiday! Since Christmas is over now, we're quickly moving into the New Year, and that means New Year's Resolutions! I usually do not put my resolutions out there because I personally tend to make them quite broad and non-specific. I also usually just don't like sharing them because I'm scared to not go through with a lot of things I said I would. But this year, I want to share my journey with all of you and maybe we can bump ideas and tips off of one another! Resolutions are not that easy, and breaking old habits and getting into the groove of a new one takes time, so don't be too hard on yourself. Let's help each other!

My overall goal for 2017 is to simply take care of myself.

I will not lie, 2016 was one of the most difficult years of my life thus far. I have been through a lot of personal battles that interfered with my mental and emotional well-being that I am not too ready to share as of yet. It felt like one thing after another threatened my sanity and my peace of mind and a lot of it interfered with my academic life. My physical health was deteriorating in front of my loved one's eyes and I am thankful for those who stuck my by side through everything, but no one can truly help me unless I make those steps in the right direction to help myself. I am ready to take those steps into helping myself and taking care of home first.

I found out I was Diabetic in early October and it has made me really take a step back and reconsider my lifestyle and overall habits. It explained so much of how I was feeling for a long time and it put a lot of things in perspective for me. I will be posting a blog post all about my diabetes and how I came to find out another day, so watch out for that. It has been very hard transitioning into a healthier lifestyle being a college student. I found out during my first round of exams and its been a bumpy road since then. I've been getting sick and having infections more often due to my high sugars. I've felt lethargic and ready to pass out where I am. It's crippling and I have even took days off of school just to recuperate and rest. This is no way to live, and although this is going to be a chronic disease I will have to live with for the rest of my life, IT IS DOABLE. With diabetes, you have the control and the ball is in your court. How you feel is a direct correlation to how you take care of yourself. It is manageable, and although difficult to get into the swing of things, I know I can do it.

The first step is changing my diet.
I'm still learning more about diabetes and although my dad has had it most of his life, I am just understanding what exactly it is. My diet has a lot to do with why I developed it, but since it runs in my family, I was definitely at a higher risk. I am not at my ideal weight, but I wouldn't say I was unhappy with what I was at. I don't think I am overweight, although some doctors would say otherwise, but I definitely am not obese. I wasn't too big on sweets, just occasionally, but always drank a lot of soda. That is definitely going to decrease come 2017. But from diabetes education offered at my hospital, I found that the big reason why my blood sugars would dramatically increase (numbers reaching as high as 500!) was due to my carb intake. I eat A LOT of rice daily. I grew up on it, I make it at my apartment, it is literally a staple in my diet, so when I found out that it is literally killing me, I was pretty taken back. I already started implementing my diet changes a month ago, but I definitely want to meal plan and eat consistent, balanced, and well-portioned meals. I am horrible at managing my meals, ranging from eating once a day/not eating at all, to stuffing my face all day. My dad, who I deem a pro at managing his sugars now, suggested eating a lot of small meals throughout the day to sustain his energy. I would like to do that as well, but starting out, I want to start eating breakfast more often, since I used to never eat breakfast. I hate breakfast. But I think eating 3 times a day will be a good start for me while checking my sugars 4x a day.

I need to start a gym routine!
If you asked me the last time I went to the gym, I'd laugh. Yep, it's been awhile. I definitely need to start working out more to help sustain my blood sugars. The more you eat, the more you workout. Exercise will help decrease the glucose in your blood, and because mine have been so high, it is the best thing for me to do. I want to start off slow and ease into it because the last time I went for a walk in the summer, I almost passed out. Habits like these take time to get used to, and I don't want to overwork myself. Easing into habits are better than just jumping straight into it because that way, you're more likely to stick with your routine.

Take a step back, be positive, relax, BREATHE.
Things have been quite overwhelming for me this past year. My relationship with my parents felt like they were hanging off a cliff, my academic life was rocky, I was pushing the only man who has supported me through everything away; I was unhappy.

I want to go into 2017 with a more positive attitude.
I need to relax when it comes to schooling and my future goals in life because how will I achieve anything if my health is deteriorating? College students sacrifice their well-being for school. We sacrifice our mental, emotional, and physical health just to pass a class. I will no longer let school get the best of me. I think I handled my most recent semester a lot better than I have in the past. I didn't do anything too last minute, I made a planner and stuck with it to help organize my responsibilities and obligations, and it helped me tremendously. I want to continue implementing using my planner and keeping myself organized for school to help my sanity. I will do another blog post about making my own planner!

You only see what I show you on social media and from the outside looking it, my relationship may look like "goals", but behind a lot of what you see, was a lot of ugly as well. I hit a new low in my relationship and we have done a lot of different things to try to save it. I found that a lot of our misery was due to the personal battles we were fighting in ourselves. Through everything, we knew we still loved each other and we are each other's best friends, so we knew we could get through it together. In the New Year, I want to leave all the ugly, the sadness, and everything else that was weighing me down in 2016. There is no place for that negativity in my relationship. He has been there for everything and has never once told me he wanted to leave, even at my lowest point. Although we may disagree about a lot of things, we also agree on a lot as well. Love is about balance and accepting one another, even through the differences.

I want to give myself a little more peace of mind next year and find ways to ease my anxiety. I think little things like working out, having a healthier diet, and maybe even meditating will help me a lot.
Simply put, I just want to take care of myself, and you should too. 2017 by no means will be better than this year if you don't change yourself and your mindset first. My 2016 was miserable because I allowed it to be. If you change how you react to the inconveniences in your life, your life in turn will change. Relax and Breathe!

I wish you all a very happy & safe New Year
and I hope you take on 2017 with an enthusiastic outlook!

'Tis the season to spend all of your money! Joking, but not joking....
Christmas is my favorite time of the year, not because of the presents, but simply because it is the time for family, friends, and togetherness. I love showing my appreciation for my loved ones with thoughtful gifts.  If you have a special lady in your life, whether that be a significant other, a mother, an aunt, a sister, and so on and so forth, and don't know what to get her, here are a few gift ideas that you can't go wrong with this holiday season. I know I would love to see any of these presents under my tree!

Sephora

Call me basic, but what girl doesn't like Sephora??! From makeup, fragrances, skincare, and more! It is the one-stop shop for all things beauty for me. Why I say that this is a great place to shop for any woman in your life is because it has such a variety of different products that you are bound to find something perfect for that special someone. I just want to put out some tips on shopping here because I understand how overwhelming a store like this can be. First and foremost, I personally hate shopping here in person. It is always packed with girls getting lost in all the makeup they want, dads/boyfriends standing in the way holding shopping bags, and workers scurrying around trying to help everyone. So yes, I actually never shop here in person, so I can only imagine how crazy it is during this time of year. I always recommend to everyone to shop online. Trust me, your sanity will thank me. It is much easier to sit back in the comfort of your own home and do all the shopping from there.

Sephora's website is always on point and up to date, especially during this season, so watch out for new deals and seasonal items. I know that brands like Tarte is always coming out with new holiday collections, which are always on my Christmas lists! These holiday collections tend to sell out and are limited from season to season, so keep that in mind.

Shopping at Sephora online also allows you to pick three free samples of your choice at checkout, which is yet another plus! They could be used as stocking stuffers or in a gift basket!

- Always always always look for a coupon code!!!! -

Sephora is ALWAYS putting out coupon codes, so I encourage you to utilize them!
What's so lovely about shopping online at Sephora is that with every order, you can use a coupon code. Especially during the holidays, they put out codes that come with gift bags with even more samples! I also use these as smaller gifts and stocking stuffers.
I always check RetailMeNot for these coupon codes!

If you are a Sephora card holding member, you are more likely to be offered more deals and coupon codes, so definitely take advantage of that and sign up!

Stackable Bracelets

Is it just me, or is this still everyone's obsession? I appreciate anyone with a good stack of bracelet/watch/bangle combo. A good way to compliment different watches and arm candy is mixing and matching different ones together to create one's own original look. From one bold watch paired with a delicate contrasting band, layering is still definitely in. I know that Alex and Ani and Pandora bracelets are still very popular, but here are a few other brands at different price points that you can get to switch it up!

(Hover over for links)

Aldo Cyrilla Stacking Bracelets (Sold on ASOS.com)

$17

Lucky Brand Pebble Bracelet Stack

$23.40

Bauble Bar Sojourn Bracelet Set

$52

Kendra Scott Tatum Stacking Bracelets (in Gray Metallic)

 $110

I also recommend shopping on places like Etsy, which has a large variety of unique and beautiful bracelets for such a low price! I got some of mine there for as low as $7!

Here is how I would pair my bracelets with my watch. From left to right, I am wearing my rose gold locket Michael Kors bracelet, three Alex and Ani bangles, my rose gold MK watch, and a bracelet my sister got for me from a brand called Yesah (which is having a Christmas sale; 50% off using the code Santa50) !

Anything Warm and Cozy

The temperatures are dropping and the big furry blankets are coming out. Am I the only weird who appreciates fuzzy socks and pajamas as a Christmas present? Loungewear and snuggly clothes, in my opinion, is a no-brainer, especially when you get weather like we do here in Jersey. Even things like gloves, hats, and scarves are appreciated because it is a gift that keeps on giving! Both thoughtful, and functional. I have also seen places like K-mart sell gorgeous sets for the holidays as well. There were mugs and hot chocolate sets, tea sets, and fuzzy pajama sets. Putting on my new fuzzy pj's, socks and drinking hot chocolate while watching a movie is my favorite thing to do on Christmas day!

Homemade Gift Basket

"Gift baskets are amazing ---. Gift baskets are the essence of class and fanciness. They are the ultimate present that a person can receive."
-Michael Scott

If you love 'The Office' as much as I do, you'd appreciate this very relevant quote! Hehe.
I love making gift baskets because it shows the thoughtfulness you put into every single item you choose to put in the basket. Like their favorite candle or lipstick! Easy, cheap, and you can make it your very own.

Some items you can put into your basket can be:
  1. Mini fragrances
  2. Face masks
  3. Essential oils
  4. Nail polish
  5. Snacks and munchies
  6. Victorias secret panties
  7. Stuffed animal
  8. Wine (extra points for this!)
  9. Lipstick
  10. Socks
  11. Bath bombs
Just to name a few things! Just have fun with it and be thoughtful, it will be appreciated!

A Special Memory

I think giving someone the gift of a special memory that they will never forget is one of the greatest gifts of all. Instead of a tangible gift, I think doing something special really shows how much you appreciate someone and it shows the extra mile you went to make sure of that. Whether that be taking them for a trip out of town, or just doing something out of your comfort zones, it's about making memories. Last year, I bought my Boyfriend and I tickets to our very first New York Knicks game, and it was an unforgettable feeling. Seeing his face light up when he got the tickets filled my heart more than anything else in the world! To see his smile throughout the whole game and to have that experience was priceless. It will sure to impress and have a lasting impression on your special someone.

I hope these gift ideas were helpful and I hope everyone a safe, warm, and beautiful holiday! Cheers!

Hi, everyone!
This is my first official beauty post and what better way to start off my new venture into the blogging world than with cheap and affordable makeup!

Today I will be talking about e.l.f. cosmetics!
This has been one of my favorite drugstore makeup products, primarily because of its low prices. I have used some of its products here and there, ranging from brushes, to powders, and even setting spray. Some of their items I love, and there are some that I can live without.

I have teamed up with +Influenster  who kindly sent me this +e.l.f. Cosmetics VoxBox complimentary for me to test out their products and give my honest opinion! How cool is that?

In the box pictured above, [from left to right] I received:
  1. e.l.f. Mineral Infused Primer (the original white bottle)
  2. e.l.f. Matte Lip Color (in the color 'Wine')
  3. e.l.f. Lip Exfoliator (in 'Mint Maniac')
  4. e.l.f. Cosmetics Baked Highlighter & Bronzer
  5. e.l.f. Hydrating Bubble Mask
I was so excited to try these products out, especially because they were all items that I have never tried before. I was most excited for the lip exfoliator and the bubble mask, because they were both very innovative products. I will do a rundown of my honest opinion and first impression of each product.

Mineral Infused Primer
I am not so much a primer-using type of girl. Before being sent this product, I was never really big on wearing primer. The only one I have used and I love is Benefit Cosmetics POREfessional primer, but I feel that it works more as a pore-filler rather than a primer.  Other than that specific product, I am lost when it comes to primers and knowing the best ones to use.
When I first put the Mineral Infused Primer on my face, my first reaction was "Oh my gosh, I am going to look so oily after this!" But, quite the contrary happened....
The primer felt like I was putting a new canvas on my face for my foundation to sit perfectly on. My face felt smooth and my foundation looked better! I felt it gave my the perfect glow and did not make me look oily at all! What's even better is that I didn't break out! When trying new face products, I am always very skeptical and hesitant because I have such sensitive skin, that I find I break out or even have hives. I was very satisfied with this product and it has even got me thinking, "Wow, if this primer works this well for only $6, maybe I should even try higher end primers and may love them!"
I guess I may be turning into a primer-using type of girl after-all!

Matte Lip Color in Wine
It is winter time and I love me a dark lippie! I was so very excited to try this product because
1. It's a dark color -and-
2. It's Matte, what could go wrong?
Actually...a few things. What a bummer.
I have few complaints about this product and it makes me sad because I really wanted to like it!
First and foremost, the color payoff was nothing like how I expected. This lip color went on smooth and buttery, more like a chapstick rather that a lipstick. The color is definitely not what I consider matte at all and ended up looking very sheer. I found myself reapplying everywhere, only for the product to move around and it looked very streaky.

Overall I would not recommend this product :( Below is a swatch of the lip color on my hand.

Lip Exfoliator in Mint Maniac
Tis the season for dry/cracked lips, and you will not find me without my lip scrubs!
I love my Tarte Maracuja Lip Exfoliant and it is a product that is a part of my nightly routine. I recently purchased a lip scrub from Lush in 'Sugar Plum Fairy' and I am loving it! I was super excited to try out the e.l.f. Lip Exfoliator because it isn't like the other two items mentioned. Instead of being more so a cream/loose lip scrub in a jar, this exfoliator is solid and in a lipstick form. What I like about it is that it is definitely less messy and there's no need to use your fingers to apply it. It was weird using it at first, but once you break it in, it is a great alternative scrub. Plus it is minty and and leave a cool, refreshing feeling on the lips!

Baked Highlighter & Bronzer
It seems that the biggest trend this past year has been a popping highlighter and bronzer duo, so of course it was only right to have this in the VoxBox. I found that this particular product didn't give me the pop of highlight that I usually go for, but more for a natural, subtle glow, which is also great. For everyday makeup looks when I want to go for a more natural beat, I find myself grabbing this little gem for just that. For a more intense pop of color, I either layer it on top of a cream highlighter or a dab of face oil to really get it shining bright.

Hydrating Bubble Mask
Now this was the product I was most excited to try out. I have seen plenty of beauty gurus try out Korean face masks, and there was a charcoal bubble mask that they tried, and it looked so cool! The pump feature on this packaging is smart because it seals in the product air tight so that it doesn't oxidize and bubble up inside. It pumps out as a gel and you put an even layer on your face and watch it grow! I will admit that as fun as this mask was, I don't feel that it really did much for my skin. I just felt like it was more for aesthetic value and it was just sitting on my face. The product does claim to be hydrating, and I do admit it was not drying and I didn't break out, so that is a plus!

I hope you enjoyed my very first beauty blog post/review. There will be more to come so stay tuned!

[I received these products complimentary from Influenster for testing purposes.]

Well, this has been long overdue. For a person who internalizes so many things that life throws her way, I am actually surprised it has taken me this long to start a blog. As a way to finally convey all of my everyday thoughts and feelings, I don't know what I really hope to accomplish. I just know that I am now taking the steps forward to do something for ME. The most important person in my own life should be myself. As a young woman who has grown up taking care of others, I feel that I am in the place in my life to finally take care of home first. A person cannot help others if they cannot help themselves! My goal of this blog is to expand and share some of my personal interests, such as makeup, fashion, and food. But, I would also like to share my story and some of the struggles I have battled and have some sort of outlet and hopefully share and help others in similar situations!
